Five young people start vocational college: news from Uganda, January to March 2025

Every quarter the team at Christ’s Hope Uganda writes about the children and families in their care. Here is their news from January to March 2025.

Five young people start vocational college

Five young people who finished their O-levels started vocational college in January 2025, training in nursing and midwifery, and in motor engineering.

One of them had found school hard. He had little interest in books but loved working with his hands. The caregivers talked it through with his family, and he chose motor engineering. He is now doing well, growing in confidence, and learning vehicle maintenance and engine repair.

Skills for the children, and for their parents

The children’s tailoring classes continue, and this quarter hairdressing and baking classes started too. Parents are learning to make exercise books, sew and make liquid soap, skills they can earn from, thanks to donors who paid for the classes.

Healthy meals and a check-up for every child

The CarePoint serves the children nutritious meals so they have the energy to learn and play. This quarter every child also had a general medical check-up, and children found to need treatment were followed up.

Easter, games and caregivers in school

Before Easter the caregivers taught the children about Jesus’ death and resurrection, and about love, hope and new life. Outdoor games built friendships and teamwork. The caregivers also visited the children’s schools to see how they are getting on, and helped them with homework, and the midterm results improved. The staff had training on teaching children who learn in different ways.

Thank you

Thank you to everyone who gave to the mattress appeal for the new children. A good night’s sleep makes all the difference to a child. You can read about the bedding appeal’s success.

A mission team from the USA visited, shared their experience of caring for children, fixed the plumbing and built a shelter for the hairdressing class.
